  1. CMJ Music Marathon To Host 'American Idiot'

Calling all St. Jimmies and American Girls, the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival will partner with the two-time Tony Award-winning hit production of Green Day’s American Idiot musical for the 2010 Marathon, which will be held October 19 – 23 at various New York City venues. The acclaimed musical, which features dramatic reinterpretations from the punk trio’s award-winning albums American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown , will be featured in a signature panel event that will include interviews with cast members and the musical’s Tony Award-winning maestros, director Michael Mayer and composer and orchestrator Tom Kitt. Additionally, a select few badge holders will receive tickets to see the acclaimed musical at its home at Broadway’s St. James Theater.

“It is an honor and privilege to partner with such an incredible example of Broadway at its very best,’ says CMJ Music Marathon Executive Producer Joanne Abbot Green. “Not only does our special presentation of American Idiot at CMJ 2010 continue our commitment to showcase the best that NYC has to offer in all cultural disciplines, it enables us to recognize the work of Green Day, who first blew CMJ audiences away at its debut CMJ event 17 years ago.”

Green Day is not the only CMJ alumni involved with Idiot. Director Mayer talked with our very own Reverend Moose at 2008’s festival at an event dedicated to his award-winning musical, Spring Awakening.

Last year’s CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival included must-see sets from rising talents like Surfer Blood, Local Natives and the Temper Trap, speaking events featuring Andrew W.K. and Emmanuel Jal, and the premiere of hotly-tipped films like The Messenger. Over the years, CMJ Music Marathon has presented thousands of new music’s best artists—including Green Day, Arcade Fire, Muse, the Foo Fighters, the Hold Steady, Feist, R.E.M, the Killers, Run-DMC, M.I.A and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs—and screened films including Pulp Fiction, Borat and Fight Club.
