Hendersonville native Turner Rouse Jr. may have left North Carolina as a musical theatre major, but after 400 shows with the “American Idiot” tour, he is returning a rock star.
Rouse Jr., who is 22, is serving in his second year as ensemble member with the touring production of the hit Broadway musical “American Idiot,” which is coming to the Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke on April 15.

Jared Nepute, the boyishly handsome, 24-year-old actor who plays the lead role of Johnny in the touring version of “American Idiot,” had to get used to playing a mangy, eyeliner-wearing anti-hero.
"In typical musicals the lead character is a likable guy that’s just trying to figure his life out, but with Johnny, he’s kind of an a—hole," Nepute, a St. Louis native, says. "I try to be nice and try for people to like me so that was hard to deal with in the beginning but now I’ve really embraced it. You’re not supposed to like him or root for him but by the end of the show you are just because he has such a huge heart."
